Noguchi celebrates Japanese American sculptor Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988), one of the most experimental and pioneering artists of the 20th century.
Accompanying the exhibition is this fully illustrated book. Archival photographs of the artist’s studios offer glimpses into his experimental attitude towards sculpture. A series of essays consider the artist’s dual heritage, the Japanese American experience, his worldwide travel and his many influences, while paying tribute to Noguchi’s fruitful collaborations with creatives from a range of industries, such as R. Buckminster Fuller and Martha Graham.
Contributors include Fabienne Eggelhöfer, Florence Ostende, Rita Kersting with Nana Tazuke, Dakin Hart, alongside a conversation with Karen Ishizuka, Katy Siegel and Danh Vo orchestrated by Devika Singh, while a fully illustrated chronology details the entirety of Noguchi’s career.
