Something in the City is a memoir by Michael Cassidy CBE, reflecting on his four decades at the heart of the City of London’s transformation. As the City’s Planning and Policy Chairman, Cassidy played a central role in shaping the modern Square Mile, including rewriting planning regulations following the financial deregulation of the 1986 "Big Bang", introducing the "Ring of Steel" security measures after the 1993 Bishopsgate bombing, and promoting the City’s international growth and development.

The memoir also explores Cassidy’s parallel careers in finance and law, as well as his involvement in major infrastructure projects such as Crossrail, offering a unique insider’s perspective on the challenges and decisions that helped define modern London.
